Bathurst - Thomas Francis Hunter, 81, originally of Saint John, NB passed away on February 27, 2017, at the ChaleurRegionalHospital, Bathurst.
Tom was the son of the late William and Irene (MacDonald) Hunter.
He is survived by his wife Rita (Stever) Hunter, son Robert, daughter-in-law Tabatha (Mills) of Moncton; brothers-in-laws Gordon (Bernadette), Raymond (Mabel), and Wesley (Geneva); sister-in-law Veronica Stever, all of Bathurst; grand children Ellie and Joel Clair, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Tom was pre-deceased by his first wife Eleanor (Garrett), daughter Cindy Clair, brother in law Robert Stever.
Tom started his career as a journeyman draftsman which originally brought him to Bathurst in the opening of Brunswick Mines. From there he moved into teaching drafting at BathurstHigh School until he retired in 1997.
His favorite pastimes were being a conductor in Joanne’s’ majorette drum core as well as his passion for drumming which he pursued in the Golden Notes for many years. In later years he loved to participate in the hockey games with his brother in law Wesley and see his favorite hockey team bring home a win.
He was an amazing husband, father, friend and teacher to many at Bathurst High and he will be dearly missed.
There will be a celebration of his life at Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst, on Friday March 3rd from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, Bathurst, on Saturday March 4th at 10 a.m.
The family would appreciate donations in memory of Tom to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of the donors choice.
