Bathurst - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Daniel “Jr” O’Neil, of Clearwater Ave., Bathurst, which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on Saturday, December 9, 2023, 2021 at the age of 78.

Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Daniel and Melvina (Boucher) O'Neil.

Daniel “Jr” was retired after 35 years of service with the Bathurst Fire Department, enjoyed the outdoors and especially his camp.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Thibodeau) O’Neil and two children: Colleen White and John O’Neil both of Bathurst.

Five grandchildren: Jeremy, Isabella, Tyler, Alex, Mia and one great-grandson, Anthony.

Several nieces and nephews.

Daniel was predeceased by a granddaughter, Erica; sisters: Helena Veniot, Shirley Aube, Patricia “TC” Melanson, Sharon Comeau, Gail Allain; brothers: George, Johnny, and Brian.

The family would like to extend their sincere thank you to the staff of Medi-Gas, the Red Cross, the palliative care unit of the Chaleur regional Hospital; especially Josée and Rebecca, Dr. Lamarre, Dr. Hickey, Dr Thériault, Dr. Cauchon; also, the many doctors and nurses of the emergency department who gave him good care during the last five weeks of his life.

There will be no visitations at the funeral home. Funeral service will be celebrated on Friday December 15th, 2023, at 11 a.m. from Elhatton’s Funeral Home Chapel (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
