Bathurst- It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Mrs. Sheila Cormier wife of the late Walter Cormier which occurred at the Chaleur Regional Hospital on Sunday, December 17th, 2023, at the age of 82.

Born in Bathurst, she was the daughter of the late Marie Mable (Duguay) Roy and the late Joseph Bernard Lavigne.

She leaves behind her children: Kelley Smearer and Johnathan (Nancy) Smearer both of Bathurst and Raymonde Smearer of Alberta.

One sister Joyce Gray (late Ronald Gray) of Nepisiguit Falls.

9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter Rachel.

Sheila loved to volunteer her time and being part of the Bathurst community. She was a proud member and past chairman of the Herman J. Good V.C. Branch #18 of the Royal Canadian Legion and member of the Ladies Auxillary. She was also Past president of the shuffleboard team, Captain of the dart’s team in the 70’s and was a founding member of the dart’s league. She volunteered with the Children’s wish foundation for many years. Sheila enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors in the Palliative Care Unit of the Chaleur Regional Hospital for the excellent care given to Sheila.

A celebration of life will be held on January 5th, 2024 at 3 p.m. at the legion.

Donations in memory of Sheila may be made to the Canadian Cancer society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
