Bathurst - It is with great sadness that we the family, announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Peter Watling, of Queen Elizabeth Dr., Bathurst, which occurred Tuesday May 7, 2024, at the Chaleur Regional Hospital in Bathurst, at the age of 84.
Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late Gordon and Lois (Munro) Watling.
He was retired from the former Consolidated Bathurst Paper Mill after 31 years, member of the First United Church, the Church choir, past President and Life Member of the Bathurst Kinsmen Club, past Treasurer and long standing member of Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club.
He loved music from an early age and in addition to his dedication to the Church choir, he participated in community musical groups and concerts.
He was an avid sportsman playing basketball, badminton, volleyball, golf and swimming. For many years he attended weekly fitness classes at BHS and in his early years he refereed high school basketball games throughout the region.
After his retirement he enjoyed golfing, spending time at his camp in Nine-Mile East and snowmobiling with friends. Summers found him enjoying swimming in the Bay of Chaleur and beach life at Youghall. Spending time with his grandchildren was always special to him. They will miss him dearly.
Besides his wife, Louise (Frenette) Watling, he is survived by two daughters: Lynn Hodnett (Jerry) of Salmon Beach and Mary Jane Gulliver (Dana) of Moncton.
Three granddaughters: Sara, Megan and Ruby.
One sister, Susan McGovern (John) of Mississauga, ON. Several nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitations at the funeral home. A small gathering for family and friends will be held at his home on Saturday May 11, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Donations in memory of Peter can be made to the First United Church, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a favorite charity.
