It is with great sadness, that we the family announce the passing of John Stewart (Stew) McConnell, husband of Claudette (Audet) McConnell of North Tetagouche, which occurred following a lengthy illness on Friday September 6, 2024 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital at the age of 89. Born in Bathurst, he was the son of the late John and the late Yvonne (Bertin) McConnell.
Besides his loving wife of 55 years, he is survived by his children: Karen Kennedy (Roger), Susan Dick, John McConnell (Carole) and James McConnell (Heather). He is also survived by five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his grandson, Jason Kennedy.
Stewart started his career as a taxi driver and eventually retired from the smelter. He was a passionate outdoorsman in his youth with a love for hunting, fishing and wildlife. Stewart could be found driving around enjoying the beautiful weather. He also loved his pets, especially his black cat, Baby.
Stewart was known for his serious nature, but his close family tells stories of his quick with and sense of humour. He will be dearly missed. There will be no visitation or funeral, the family will celebrate his life in a private ceremony.
In Memory of Stewart, donations can be made to the Bathurst SPCA, the Alzheimer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton Funeral Home in Bathurst. www.elhatton.com
